Coron, Philippines: A Tropical Escape You’ll Want to Bookmark (And Visit!)

KAYANGAN LAKE Coron Philippines

Welcome to Coron, a paradise in the Philippines where the water’s so clear it feels like Mother Nature’s Instagram filter! Known for its pristine lagoons, jaw-dropping dive spots, and enough tropical vibes to make you rethink returning home, Coron is a must-visit. Whether you’re a thrill-seeking adventurer or a hammock-loving beach bum, there’s something here for everyone, yes, even solo travelers like me.

Why Coron?

Two words: unparalleled beauty. Think turquoise lagoons, limestone cliffs, and underwater wrecks that make you feel like Indiana Jones in flip-flops. And unlike El Nido, Coron is less crowded, more laid-back, and way easier on the wallet. The water? Transparent as my dating history (ahem). The reefs? A snorkeler’s dream. Plus, locals are friendly, and you’ll never feel out of place, even if you’re wandering solo with a pineapple smoothie in hand.

My Coron Itinerary

I arrived in Coron via a boat from El Nido (a story for later, but check out my link here). My first stop was a cozy hostel near Coron Town. From there, I went full explorer mode: hiring a private Filipino boat to hit the top spots. It’s cheaper and less crowded than joining group tours.

What did I love most? Kayangan Lake’s crystal-clear water, Twin Lagoon’s magical dual vibes (saltwater meets freshwater!), and the oh-so-quiet Banul Beach, like having your own private paradise. Not bad for a day’s work, right?

Pro Tip: Bring waterproof everything—bags, cases, bandages, even your sense of humor—because the rain here likes to surprise. Oh, and don’t forget insect repellent unless you want to be mosquito bait.

Best Time to Visit Coron

Let’s talk weather, shall we? The dry season from November to April is your golden window. Typhoon season can be…dramatic, so aim for January to April when it’s sunny and fabulous. And yes, that means perfect island-hopping selfies.

Why Coron is Perfect for Solo Travelers

Coron’s small-town charm and friendly locals make it a breeze for solo travelers. Safety isn’t a concern, and you’ll quickly meet other adventurers on tours or at the local bars. As a female solo traveler, I felt empowered exploring independently. Plus, nothing beats the freedom of setting your own itinerary, or the joy of keeping all the mango shakes to yourself.
